World COPD Day 2026
Raising Awareness, Improving Lives
COPD remains one of the leading chronic respiratory diseases, with a considerable impact on patients, their loved ones and healthcare systems.
Yet it is still too often underdiagnosed, diagnosed at a late stage or inadequately controlled. Improving COPD management therefore requires action at every stage: detecting the disease earlier, ensuring appropriate treatment and vaccination, promoting physical activity, preventing exacerbations and strengthening collaboration between primary and specialised care.
Under the theme “Raising Awareness, Improving Lives”, this evening event, jointly organised by the BeRS and BeLF and dedicated to COPD, aims to bring healthcare professionals together around practical, evidence-based approaches that can make a tangible difference to the lives of people living with the disease.
The programme will combine an interactive update on the GOLD 2027 recommendations with presentations and discussions addressing key aspects of COPD management, including the role of spirometry in primary care, vaccination, physical activity and the management of exacerbations. Particular attention will be paid to translating the latest scientific evidence and recommendations into everyday clinical practice.
By bringing together different areas of expertise and perspectives, we aim to foster dialogue, strengthen collaboration and contribute to better prevention, earlier diagnosis and improved care for people living with COPD in Belgium.
