Fine particles: not so “fine”

After the steam train, trains switched to diesel. Emissions from diesel trains contain carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, and also fine particles. These tiny particles can penetrate deep into our lungs and harm them.

Fortunately, most trains in Belgium now run on electricity.

Unfortunately, fine particles are also released by cars, certain industries, agriculture, and heating of buildings and homes, which often pollutes the air we breathe.
